"Making of a Dancer": Beyond Classical Ballet
Youth America Grand Prix’s mission to provide extraordinary educational and performance opportunities includes not only affiliations with the world’s top traditional ballet institutions, but also partnerships with organizations outside of the traditional ballet world that offer YAGP participants opportunity to launch their careers as professional dancers.
On May 31, 2009 YAGP celebrated a partnership with yet another dance institution that has carved its niche outside the traditional ballet world: the international performance arts phenomenon, Cirque du Soleil. As the world’s largest dance talent network, YAGP was selected by Cirque du Soleil as one of its major sources of dance talent for the many dance-oriented shows the organization is planning to develop. The group of YAGP supporters was treated to a performance of “Kooza” and an exclusive backstage tour offering a rare glimpse into the lives of Cirque du Soleil’s extraordinary performers.
Rick Tija, Senior Artistic Talent Scout for Cirque de Soleil, said, “YAGP is a source of top young talent – the proof is in the pudding; a few months after our first attendance at YAGP we hired one of its participants and are looking forward to hiring many more for upcoming dance roles all over the world.
