Irina Konstantinova attended the Vaganova Academy in St Petersburg since the age of ten. Upon graduating, she joined the USSR State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre, before being invited to join the Kirov Ballet (now Mariinsky Ballet). Throughout her career as Principal, Ms Konstantinova had always felt a calling to nurture and train aspiring dancers. She joined a relatively new classical company, the Tachkin Company and entered into the Vaganova Academy to train for five years, to become a qualified teacher in the Vaganova method. In 2001, Ms Konstantinova accepted an invitation to guest teach at The Australian Ballet School and eventually moved to Melbourne to accept a full-time position with the school.
