The Japanese Aya Okumura (Tokyo) joined the Dutch National Ballet in 2010. She studied at the John Cranko Schule in Stuttgart.
She started with the Dutch National Ballet as an élève, but in the following years she made her way via the corps de ballet (2010) to corypheé (2012) and grand sujet (2014). In 2017, immediately after the premiere of Alexei Ratmansky’s Shostakovich Trilogy, she was promoted to second soloist.
