John Selya

Twyla Tharp Dance, Former dancer, Twyla Tharp Dance, ABT

New York City native, John Selya has received his dance training at the School of American Ballet. In his final year of studies, he won the prestigious Mae L. Wien Award for Outstanding Promise. Mr. Selya was invited by Mikhail Baryshnikov to join American Ballet Theatre, where he performed featured roles in both classical and contemporary repertoire. While at ABT, he also choreographed several works for the company repertoire. In 1999, Mr. Selya joined forces with Twyla Tharp to form Twyla Tharp Dance. He went on to star in Tharp’s Broadway musicals “Come Fly Away” and "Movin' Out," for which he received a TONY Award nomination. He is a recipient of the Fred Astaire Award and a Theater World Award. He currently appears as a Guest Master Teacher in the U.S. and internationally.
