Miwako was born in Okinawa, Japan and began her ballet training at the age of 7.

At the age of 16 she joined the Australian Ballet School for three years. After graduating from the Australian Ballet School, Miwako joined the Australian Ballet Company in 1999 progressing through the ranks to the role of Senior Artist in 2010 and retired at that rank at the end of 2016. During her time with The Australian Ballet, Miwako toured extensively throughout Australia and internationally, performing in Japan, New Zealand, China, London, Manchester, Cardiff, Paris, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and New York. She danced principal roles in full-length productions by The Australian Ballet, as well as in full-length works and pieces by other companies.
