Nilas Martins received his early dance training at the Royal Danish Ballet School. As a student he performed with the Royal Danish Ballet and in 1984 he moved to New York to continue his dance studies at the School of American Ballet. In 1986 he became a member of New York City Ballet, promoted to soloist in 1991 and to Principal in 1993. Mr. Martins has taught at Harvard University, Miami City Ballet School, New York City Ballet, Royal Danish Ballet, School of American Ballet and Washington Ballet, among many others. Since 1996, Mr. Martins has been a repetiteur for the George Balanchine Trust, staging ballets for companies and schools in the United States and all over the world.
