Sergey Filin joined the Bolshoi Ballet company in 1988, upon completing his studies at the Moscow College of Choreography. He danced all major leading parts in the Bolshoi’s classical repertoire until 2008, when he retired from the stage. He became the Director of Ballet at Moscow’s Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Music Theatre until 2011, when he was appointed the Artistic Director of the Bolshoi Ballet.
Mr. Filin is the distinguished recipient of numerous artistic awards, including the “Benois de la Danse” International Association Prize. In 2016, Mr. Filin became the Director of Bolshoi’s Young Artist Program, and the Emerging Choreographers’ Workshop, continuing his legacy of attracting global talent to one of the world’s oldest dance institutions.
