Skylar Campbell was born in Laguna Beach, California and trained with Victor and Tatiana Kasatsky in Orange County, California. Mr. Campbell joined The National Ballet of Canada as a RBC Apprentice in 2009 and was promoted to Principal Dancer in 2018. Mr. Campbell created the title role in the world premiere of Pinocchio by Will Tuckett and has also danced the title roles in Nijinsky and Le Petit Prince as well as in the world premiere of Frame by Frame by Guillaume Côté and Robert Lepage. His repertoire includes Peter/The Nutcracker in The Nutcracker, Mercutio in Romeo and Juliet, Hilarion in Giselle, Gurn in La Sylphide, White Rabbit in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, Florizel in The Winter’s Tale, Bluebird in The Sleeping Beauty and Alan in A Streetcar Named Desire. Mr. Campbell has also danced roles in Swan Lake, Onegin, Cinderella, Manon, A Month in the Country, Don Quixote, Hamlet, The Seagull, Theme and Variations, Tarantella, The Four Seasons, Emergence, Chroma, Being and Nothingness, Symphony # 9, The Second Detail, Genus, Cacti, Paz de la Jolla and The Dreamers Ever Leave You. Mr. Campbell was awarded the Bronze Medal in the Pas de Deux category at the Youth American Grand Prix in 2009 and was a finalist in the prix de Lausanne in 2009. He also won the MyTheatre Award for the Best Ballet Performance in Robert Binet’s Unearth and has been recognized by Dance Magazine as one of 25 Dancers to Watch.
